Chevin also uses Charles Street Surgery in Otley and Bramhope Medical Centre in Bramhope. Patients can access services at practice locations, but always check where your appointment is booked.
Open directionsDecision hub: what should a Chevin patient do first?
Use this before calling, sending an eConsult or travelling. It reduces wasted calls and sends the patient to the safest route.
Life-threatening emergency
Call 999. Do not use online forms for chest pain, stroke signs, severe breathing difficulty, collapse, heavy bleeding or a serious allergic reaction.
Urgent today, not life-threatening
Use urgent eConsult during listed hours if open, call the surgery if needed, or use NHS 111 if the practice route is closed or capacity has been reached.
Minor illness
Chevin guidance says pharmacists can help with minor illness such as sore throat, cough, cystitis or earache. Use a local pharmacy first when suitable.
Minor injury needing same-day treatment
Chevin guidance points patients to Wharfedale Urgent Treatment Centre or another urgent treatment centre route, with NHS 111 where advised.
Routine GP/nurse issue
Submit a routine eConsult during routine hours or phone for help if you cannot use online access.
Medication repeat
Use the NHS App or request in person at one of the surgeries. Telephone repeat requests are not normally accepted.

eConsult online triage: when it works, when it closes, and what to do next

Routine requests
Routine eConsult requests are listed as available Monday–Friday, 8am–6:30pm, excluding bank holidays.
Urgent requests
Urgent eConsult requests are listed as available Monday–Friday, 8am–5pm, or until the daily urgent capacity is reached.
Training days
On listed staff-training days, eConsult is only available 8am–11am.
Capacity reached
If eConsult says today’s triage is closed, use the official alternatives: 999, pharmacy, urgent treatment centre, NHS 111 or call reception for signposting.

Appointments: GP, nurse, pharmacist, physio, mental health and Saturday hub
The official appointments page says Chevin offers appointments with GPs, practice nurses, healthcare assistants, pharmacist, physio advice/MSK, Healthy Minds Service and wellbeing coordinator. It also lists telephone appointments with pharmacists, mental health practitioners and physiotherapists 7 days a week including bank holidays.
| Need | Best route | Official detail to know |
|---|---|---|
| GP problem | eConsult or phone 01943 858300 | Urgent same-day issues are managed by a dedicated GP and may be directed to other NHS services. |
| Routine GP appointment | Phone / practice route | Routine GP appointments are listed as 10 minutes and restricted to the purpose originally booked. |
| Nurse / HCA appointment | Reception booking | Use for reviews, checks, injections, bloods or nurse-led services where appropriate. |

Hello, my name is [name]. My date of birth is [date]. I am registered with Chevin Medical Practice. My main issue is [one clear sentence]. It started [when]. I need help [today / routinely / with a medicine / with test results / with a referral]. Is this best handled by eConsult, GP, nurse, pharmacist, physio, Healthy Minds, urgent treatment centre, 111 or 999?
Repeat prescriptions: NHS App, EPS, 48-hour safety checks and delays
Chevin prefers the NHS Electronic Prescription Service so prescriptions go electronically to the patient’s nominated pharmacy or dispenser. The practice says it no longer accepts telephone requests for repeat prescriptions; requests need to be made online or in person at one of the three surgeries.
Best online route
Use the NHS App to order repeat prescriptions and manage a nominated pharmacy where suitable.
Electronic Prescription Service
Nominate a local pharmacy or appliance contractor so the prescription can be sent electronically.
GP approval timing
Where routine prescriptions require GP approval, Chevin asks patients to allow 48 hours / 2 working days for checks, signing and transfer.
Supply length
The practice says it routinely issues up to two months’ supply, with some exceptions such as HRT and the contraceptive pill.
| Prescription issue | What it may mean | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Need a repeat item | Normal repeat medicine already authorised. | Use NHS App / online request or make a request in person at a surgery. |
| Need one-off item | Repeat ordering is not for unique, one-off or non-repeat items. | Use clinical request route/eConsult or ask reception what is appropriate. |
| Not requested for 18+ months | Chevin says repeat items may be removed automatically after long non-use. | Ask for review or clinical advice before expecting re-issue. |
| Review overdue | GP may require review before more medication is issued. | Book medication review; nurses manage many routine repeat reviews and GPs focus on complex needs. |
| Controlled drug / expired repeat period | May require GP authorisation before the pharmacy can dispense. | Allow extra time and avoid last-minute requests. |
| Contact details outdated | Practice may be unable to alert you about prescription problems. | Update phone/email/address using the admin route. |
Test results and referrals: exact waiting times before you chase
The official tests page asks patients to allow minimum processing times before contacting the surgery. Normal results are not routinely called out. If you call after the minimum time has elapsed, call after 2pm.
| Result type | Minimum timescale listed | Best next step |
|---|---|---|
| Blood and urine tests | 5 working days after receipt by the lab | Do not chase before this unless you were told it was urgent. |
| X-rays | 10 working days after scan | Call after 2pm once minimum time has passed. |
| MRI, ultrasound and CT | 15 working days after investigation | Hospital or imaging team may also provide information. |
| Cervical smear | 4 to 5 weeks from date of smear | Wait for usual notification route unless told otherwise. |
| Normal result | Practice does not routinely call to advise normal results | Only contact if you need confirmation after the minimum wait. |
| Complicated result | May not be fully given over the phone | Practice may offer an appointment if clinician needs to discuss it. |
Hospital referral or expedite letter request
Chevin’s tests/referrals guidance says patients should contact the hospital first if asking about expediting a referral, using contact details on the hospital letter. It says the hospital has already triaged the referral and only the hospital can compare needs with other patients on the waiting list.
I am waiting for [first appointment/follow-up/treatment] for [condition]. Since the referral/last contact, my symptoms have changed: [brief change]. Please review my hospital notes and tell me whether my care should be expedited and what my likely wait is.
Register with Chevin Medical Practice
The NHS profile says Chevin Medical Practice is currently accepting new patients. The official registration page says Chevin is a Safe Surgery and that lack of ID/proof of address, immigration status or language should not be a barrier to registration.
The practice uses an inner boundary and outer boundary. The outer boundary is for existing patients who move beyond the inner boundary but remain within the wider area.
Use the NHS online GP registration link for practice code B86032.
Download/complete the NHS Family Doctors Services Registration form and Chevin Medical form, or pick forms up from reception.
The practice asks for photographic ID and proof of address for in-person registration, plus a repeat medication list from your previous surgery.
Chevin also states it is a Safe Surgery, meaning lack of ID/proof of address, immigration status or language should not be a barrier.
The practice says records can sometimes take up to three months to arrive from the previous practice.
Clinics, services and who may handle your request
Chevin lists a wide range of clinics and services. The most useful patient point is simple: not every problem needs a GP. Your request may be better handled by nurse, HCA, pharmacist, physio/MSK, Healthy Minds, wellbeing coordinator, urgent treatment centre, pharmacy, or community clinic.
Access, parking, BSL support and patient communication
CQC’s inspection summary says there is onsite parking and disabled access to all Chevin premises, and that patients can access services at any of the locations. Chevin also lists a BSL interpreter route for people who use British Sign Language.
Parking and disabled access
CQC states there is onsite parking and disabled access to all premises. Check the exact surgery site before travelling.
BSL phone support
Chevin says BSL users can use the service 8am–6:30pm Monday–Friday and be connected to an interpreter who calls the GP surgery.
Face-to-face BSL interpreter
The practice says it usually needs 2–3 weeks to book a face-to-face interpreter. If unavailable, video interpreting may be offered.
Different format or language
Tell the practice if you need information in another format/language or have special communication needs.
When eConsult or the surgery route is closed
Chevin’s guidance for closed eConsult says that if urgent same-day appointments are full, patients should use the correct route rather than waiting silently. Your safest route depends on severity.
| Situation | Route | Important note |
|---|---|---|
| Immediate medical assistance / life-threatening | Call 999 | Do not continue online forms or wait in a phone queue. |
| Minor illness | Local pharmacy | Chevin lists examples such as sore throat, cough, cystitis or earache. |
| Minor injury or same-day minor illness | Wharfedale Urgent Treatment Centre / NHS 111 route | Call 111 first for minor illness where advised. Some exclusions apply, including under age 2, over 65 with head injury, and pregnancy-related health conditions. |
| Outside practice opening hours | NHS 111 | Use 111 when care needs are urgent but not life-threatening. |
| Still unsure | Call the practice if open | Reception may still direct you to pharmacy, UTC, 111 or 999 if appointments are full. |
